Livingstone Shire Council has officially announced the appointment of Tom Upton as its new Chief Executive Officer following a comprehensive nationwide recruitment search.

Mayor Adam Belot confirmed the decision this week, praising the selection process for attracting a high-calibre field of candidates. The appointment is seen as a strategic move to provide long-term stability and leadership for one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions outside of the southeast corner.
Mayor Belot highlighted Mr. Upton’s extensive background in local government executive roles, specifically noting his recent seven-year tenure alongside Mayor Nev Ferrier at Banana Shire Council.
Mr Upton’s reputation for governance and stakeholder engagement was cited as a key factor in his selection, with the Council aiming to build on the progress made during the past year under interim leadership.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Mr. Upton stated that he is honoured to join the Livingstone community during such a pivotal period of opportunity.
Mr. Upton is scheduled to officially relocate and commence his duties with the Council on June 29.
